La Mercè App

The challenge

In response to Barcelona City Council’s need to deal with the La Mercè festivities in a pandemic context, the mobile app was redesigned to offer new functionalities and a modern, up-to-date design.

The first version was published in 2021 and in the following two years it has evolved to improve the visuals, add new sections and even an activity recommender based on the user’s tastes.

The app makes it easier to consult shows thanks to the programme view with filtering by day, space or theme, without the need for an internet connection. In addition, it also allows the management and booking of tickets for the main events.

Objectives

• To offer citizens a useful and high quality application.
• To show all the information about the festival in a quick, intuitive and accessible way.
• To ensure the proper functioning at times when the internet connection is poor or non-existent.
• To inform the user in real time of changes in programming.

Results provided

The user experience has improved with each edition, and the La Mercè App has become a useful tool for citizens, with 93,877 downloads in the last edition.
